La beauté idéale de la consommationParis, 2014—2018
This project started in the year 2014 on metro stations I used daily on my way to work in Paris. It started as a small documentation of my daily travel routines and as the housing market in Paris is quite difficult I moved a lot throughout the city. Between 2014 and 2018 I gathered a small collection of my ways from Villejuif (7), Saint-Denis (13, 4/5,9), Sevre-Lecourbe (6), Nation (9), and Porte de Clignancourt (4,8/9) to Rue Charonne always with the intention of a special focus — one would even say a kind of micro-documentation. On almost all these routes I spent most of my time under earth. I observed quickly that the advertisement on the metro billboards were changing in a short routine. Every week the old message had to move for the new one — the traces of each intermingle. My observation was always temporary and yet a fix image of my environment.
IdeasCity Athens, 2016
The five-day residency brought together emerging practitioners working at the intersection of community activism, art, design, architecture, and technology in cities around the world, who will develop ideas and strategies to overcome the pressing challenges facing urban centres today. Our group (Maria Stanisheva, Sean Monahan, Marily Konstantinopoulou, Harris Biskos, and me) concentrated on the potential of alternative spaces and platforms. Current medial representation about Greece (f.e. european point of view) the importance of a borderless positive mind shift is needed embracing the strength of local actors. We detected »tarps« as a potential platform for civic engagement and exchange. Our idea has been presented at the end of the fellowship in Athens and also at the New Museums IdeasCity event »100 actions for the future city« in New York City.
La rechercheWolfsburg, 2016
How can one approach and understand a city relying solely on an analytic instinct? How can plans and historic documents testify as witnesses of their time? How can one grasp the in-between and as a designer make use of it? With the core question of representation, the way of argumentation and the chronological structure of the work, one could come closer to the essence of our research medium: who masters the plan? Who plans for whom and how is the planning chain completed - which steps does it need? In order to understand what is the vibe of this city, we have dealt with its planning origin. The Volkswagen is not only an important part of this city, but also the cause of its existence. The city is one of the youngest cities in Germany and therefore has to deal with a specific difficult historical heritage. Down to the smallest detail of urban construction and construction elements, the ideological symbolism of National Socialism was reflected in the "Stadt des KDF-Wagens" (its former naming). Since the fall of the Third Reich, Wolfsburg has been consciously dealing with this heavy legacy and developing its own identity - and above all, gaining independence. Still we were asking each other if this is its dilemma or challenge.
